Dear students,
I'm writing to give you an update on the industrial action which is currently underway and when we expect to be able to provide further updates.
Following a meeting with student representatives yesterday, and whilst meeting with students over the past month, I want to make sure we're keeping you informed at each stage, including sharing updates as they emerge rather than waiting until every detail is confirmed.
Where things stand
The first deadline has now passed for colleagues to inform us whether they will be taking part in industrial action. Our teams are now working to understand the potential impact on you. This includes:
- On marking and assessment
- On teaching and supervision
- On broader academic support and guidance
This work should be completed by early next week.
Where colleagues are participating in industrial action, we will first look to make arrangements for someone else to mark your work, lead your class, provide supervision or academic support. Where this is not possible, we will consider other ways in which we can support you. This includes applying the Exceptional Academic Regulations where it would be in your interest. I also understand the particular concern from international students in relation to their visa status. My colleagues and I are working hard to ensure that we can mitigate the impact as far as possible. At this stage there is no need to be concerned given we would not have published results at this point in any academic year.
This is a careful process, and we want to give you accurate information rather than communicate prematurely. We expect to be in a position to update you more specifically within the next week or so, and where relevant the School Leadership Teams will be in touch with you individually.
What to do in the meantime
Continue to submit work and attend teaching as normal unless you are advised otherwise. If you have urgent questions, please contact the Student Hub or reach out to your Head of School or student representatives. We are continuing to update our industrial action FAQ page, so please keep checking your email and the website for the latest information.
